Session 1039 - 'Till Death Do Us Part': Medieval Hermits, Dying, and 'Death' to the World

The Ruusbroec Institute (University of Antwerp), Cartusiana.org, and the Mystical Theology Network are organizing an international conference in Antwerp from 8-10 June 2023. The conference will be held in the context of the city festival and exhibition ‘Baroque Influencers’, an initiative of the Jesuit Heritage Foundation, the University Centre Saint Ignatius Antwerp (UCSIA), and the University of Antwerp.

The Cusanus Society UK & Ireland will be holding its first annual conference 20-21 June 2023 in St Andrews in conjunction that week with the annual meeting of the European Academy of Religion.

The conference will be held in Parliament Hall within the University of St Andrews.

Plenary speakers will be Professor John Millbank (Emeritus Professor & Director of the Centre of Theology and Philosophy, University of Nottingham) and Dr Richard Oosterhoff (Senior Lecturer in History, University of Edinburgh).

Op 6 januari 2023 overleed kartuizervorser Jan De Grauwe (°1929), stichtend lid en ere-voorzitter van Cartusiana. Naast een carrière als leraar aan het Gentse Sint-Barbaracollege, publiceerde hij gedurende vier decennia meer dan 350 wetenschappelijke en populariserende bijdragen m.b.t. de geschiedenis en spiritualiteit van de kartuizerorde. In 2012 ontving hij in het gemeentehuis van Destelbergen de pauselijke onderscheiding Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice, niet enkel voor zijn onderzoek naar de kartuizers, maar ook voor zijn inzet in zijn lokale parochie.

On 19 October 2022, Ingrid Falque (Université catholique de Louvain) will speak about praying and meditating with and through images at the inaugural meeting of the IMEMS research strand 'Spiritual Writings from the Low Countries (1200-1550): Context, Influence and Transmission'.

Op 8 en 9 oktober viert de gemeente Lierde het 300-jarig bestaan van de voormalige kartuizerkerk in Sint-Martens-Lierde. Tijdens de herdenking wordt teruggeblikt op de kartuizerleven zoals het was en ook dieper op de evolutie van kloosterkerk naar parochiekerk.
