Third edition of this apologetics of the catholic religion (1st ed. : 1543) by Vives (Valence 1492-1540 Bruges), a Spanish Jew turned into catholic. Theologian and philosopher, he was considered as one of the most oustanding humanists of his time and was patronised by Guillaume de Croij and Carolus V. During his charge as professor of theology at the University of Leuven, he was in contact with Erasmus who asked him to prepare a critical edition of Saint Augustine's City of God.
